The loss of a loved one is sad and stressful and it can be hard to know what to do in the immediate aftermath of their death.
Organising a funeral
Usually the first step is to contact the local undertakers to begin to make arrangements for the funeral. They will contact the Rector and parish office on your behalf to arrange the date and time of the service. The service can be held in one of the churches in the Benefice or in the crematorium.
Once a funeral time and date is arranged the Rector or other minister will visit you and help you plan the service. The minister who will conduct the funeral service will visit you so that they can find out more about your loved one and make the service more personal for you and your family. Anyone you choose can be with you at that visit.
If there is a committal, at the crematorium or a graveside, following the church service then the minister will usually help you with this too.
The minister’s visit is about walking alongside you in your grief, making sure that you know that they are there for you after the funeral service if you need any pastoral help or someone to talk to. There is also a Bereavement Team who can continue to support you, should you wish it. Bereavement Team Details
